The Over Comers Journey

Inspired by Father God

Penned by Beth R. Auman

December 13, 2010

Revelation is progressive. The Lord will reveal Himself to us as our hearts are open to Him.  Years ago, He revealed something to me about truth that changed my entire life.

Three Scriptures..  I was at the end of myself. Everything in my life needed to change.  Only I did not know where to begin.  God knew, He knows all things. He knew exactly what I needed to grab hold of with my entire being - to make it through the next steps of my journey. So, He equipped me with Ephesians 1:17-23, Romans 8:11 and John 8:31-32. He began to reveal Himself to me as my heart opened to Him. Each lesson became firmly imprinted upon my heart.

He was writing Himself on the tablets of my heart. Of course I didn't realize this at the time. I was so in awe that He would even care to do so, after all, it was just me. The church that I went too taught me that I was damaged goods. To broken to be repaired. To full of holes to be holy.

As I embraced Him, I became hungrier for His presence than I have ever been for anything in my entire life. Oh, this hunger is a gift from Him, in and of itself and I pray in Jesus name that you receive this gift of hunger for the Lord as you read this and that if you do not take anything else away from it that you will become so hungry for Jesus Christ, Your Savior, Redeemer than anything else in life. Hungry for relationship with Him and revelation in Him.

In this life we learn everyday from birth. Some of what we learn is true and some totally false. Only when we fully surrender and accept Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives does He separate the truth in our hearts from the false. This is a process, it happens once we become born again and yet it takes the remainder of our lives learning about Him to unpack the entirety and walk out the fullness of what has been imparted at our new birth.

Just as a newborn baby is not full grown, our newly reborn, recreated being begins in infancy.  Our nurture, desire to grow and willingness to receive revelation every step of the way remains within the boundaries of our free will.

Father God created each of us with purpose. He has a goal for each of us to reach and we can only do that by being led by His Holy Spirit and fully abiding in Jesus.

We maintain our free will along the journey and can waiver along the way. However, by doing so we delay our own destinies.

Father God has been leading and guiding me by Holy Spirit, revealing Himself to me every step of the way. Only because I have embraced the Truth (Jesus), the He is THE WAY.

When I was at the end of myself, the revelation that He so lovingly opened the eyes of my heart to was John 8:31 - and the truth will be revealed and the truth will make you free.  Oh how I wanted to be free.

His question to me was, are you willing to allow Me to reveal all that is true and to lay down all that is false within you? My own personal answer was a resounding, YES!!

Step by step and minute by minute, precept upon precept, the Lord has led and guided me by Holy Spirit into all Truth (Jesus).

I have had to face my own carnality, selfishness, structure of belief, idols, and fleshly ways and allow Jesus to cleanse me and purge me from all unrighteousness.

In doing so He has revealed Himself to me in so many ways, taught me so many things. I could never convey all of it to you.  Best of all, I'm nowhere near finished. There is much still to learn and to overcome.  I have made the choice to be an over comer, continue in Him. Which brings me to the next step in this journey called life that I so want to share with you.

As Jesus revealed Himself to me, as Truth and made me free, which is such a key of revelation in and of itself.  (Jesus is the Truth).

We each choose to hang onto what we perceive as truth and truly think that we are walking in the light of His truth, going along being free. Then something happens that we did not expect a bump in the road, a place to exercise our faith. A place that we realize there is no freedom, we find our circumstance bound. At this point we have a choice to freeze, retreat or lean into Jesus (THE TRUTH) that has been revealed to us that has made us free in those other situations and circumstance and Trust Him to lead and guide us through...

Once we lean into Him and refuse to freeze or retreat we back up to the verse that precedes John 8:32 and He shines His light of revelation upon our heart to see and be written upon and realize that John 8:31 and 32 are Shalom - Complete, nothing missing and nothing broken .

John 8:31-32 (New American Standard Bible)

The Truth Will Make You Free

 31So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, "(A)If you continue in My word, then you are truly (B)disciples of Mine;

32and (C)you will know the truth, and (D)the truth will make you free."

Cross references:

  1. John 8:31 : John 15:7; 2 John 9
  2. John 8:31 : John 2:2
  3. John 8:32 : John 1:14, 17
  4. John 8:32 : John 8:36; Rom 8:2; 2 Cor 3:17; Gal 5:1, 13; James 2:12; 1 Pet 2:16

There is an If, Then clause... That means pay attention because your free will has a choice.. God never takes away our free will. Never! However we would be so daft to freeze or retreat.

I have nothing to go back to personally! I emerged as someone reborn from filth and lies. I never want to be that person or see that person again and I will never go back! I want, I choose, I desire, nothing more than to learn from, lean into, and abide in Jesus Christ - my Lord and Savior, who gave His life for me to have this opportunity.  I Love the Lord with all of my heart, mind, spirit and soul. I submit and yield unto Him as Lord of my life, because apart from Him everything else is death.

There are many If, Then clauses in the Bible, many opportunities to hear and listen.

Most importantly the discipline (being a disciple of His) of continuing in His Word every day, not veering to the right or left.  It is a choice and discipline, it is ours to make individually. One that we must take seriously every moment that we are given.

We must truly wake up and understand the Promises made by Jesus to the over comers.

Have you ever thought that in order to be an over comer, you have to overcome something? You must be able to see it from God's perspective clearly and know the hope of His calling in it. God does not bring bad things upon us. We cause all that ourselves because of sin, things that we use our free will that is contrary to His will. God uses those things to perfect that which concerns us.. To make us strong and help us to understand how to yield to His will in ever circumstance and have ultimate Victory!

Don't allow what seems to be standing in your way to defeat you.  The revelation that Father God gives is progressive. Line upon Line, Precept upon Precept, you must receive the first and walk it out in order to receive the next. Much like stairs. I myself have chosen to take the journey. I now understand that when a situation arises in life. be it great or small, we have to lay our selves aside and look at each situation and ask the Lord:

Oh Lord, I have this to overcome. I choose to be an over comer. Show me by opening the eyes of my understanding so that I will know and understand the hope of Your calling and continue in Your word, disciple me to defeat the enemy and overcome. I apply the blood of Jesus and yield to Holy Spirit declaring VICTORY in Jesus Christ over this situation! Amen

This is a process. The Promises are in Revelation: Revelation was given to John and it is available to us as well. We cannot read the Bible like a novel. It's not a novel, it is alive for all those who choose to partake of His life..for the born again recreated human being. (The only difference between us and them (Those who choose not to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and be born again) is that Holy Spirit abides within us to lead and guide us into all Truth (Jesus The Word of God).

Jesus was born, lived a sinless life, was crucified and rose again so that Holy Spirit could be  freely received by us to comfort, protect and assist us in overcoming.. Eight Awesome promises made to those who have an ear to hear what the Sprit has to say to the churches!

Can you hear? are you listening?

Revelation 2:7 -He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

Revelation 2:11 -He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Revelation 2:17 -He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Revelation 2:26 -And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

Revelation 3:5 -He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.

Revelation 3:12
-Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.

Revelation 3:21
- To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

Revelation 21:7
-He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Are you listening? Can you hear what the Spirit has to say to the Church? Do you realize that you are the Church of the Only True Living God? The Creator of the Universe has set before you the Way to overcome. He did not keep it a secret and Jesus is for everyone who will receive Him as Lord.. He's not just the tiny little baby lying in the manger - that's only part. Are you ready to receive Jesus as Lord of your life and OVERCOME?? Have VICTORY? Because that's what He is!

Revelation is progressive - SEE each church of the Seven in the Book of Revelation are literal locations in (Asia Minor - present day Turkey). We must understand the meaning of the overcoming church - The Body of Christ - Repent and realize the Revelatory Spiritual significance of what Jesus said about them, their sin and nature. We must be aware and repent but truly realize the significant keys that Jesus is offering to us to overcome and what we will receive for overcoming!

These are keys to overcoming. He is telling us, instructing us, leading us and guiding us into all TRUTH (Himself)!  He is leading us and guiding us, oh please listen. He won't beg you, He won't plead with you. He simply gives you an opportunity to hear and listen. There are rewards for doing so. But more important, there is a plan for overcoming, He told us how. It is not a secret.

Wow! Abba Father thought of everything, of course He did. He created the universe and sent His best to save us from our sins.

Here are the primary scriptures that Abba Father has given me revelatory knowledge in through the past 8 years.

Ephesians 1:17-23 (King James Version)

17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:

22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

John 8:31-32 (King James Version)

 31Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Romans 8:11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Now He is taking me on the journey of putting it all together, looking back at how He has progressively taught me to overcome because I received Him and the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead dwells in me and He quickens my mortal body. Now He is asking me to share this with you.

I hope and pray that He will open the eyes of your understanding  so that you too will know the hope of His calling, that you will invite Him to dwell in you and fully understand what that means and that you will continue in His word in order that the truth can be revealed and make you free so that you too can overcome every single obstacle that would even try to stand between you and Him.

Within the Book of Revelation Jesus told us what we have to overcome. The scriptures are below for you to read for yourself. Where are you out of line? All of these promises are here for those who overcome. You must ask the Lord to open the eyes of your understanding so that you will know the  hope of His calling.  Allow Him to give you a check up and show you where you need to repent.

But know that if you do, if you choose to be an Overcomer - that the circumstances that come up in your life will no longer matter because the progressive revelation that Jesus Christ has for you will far surpass any trial or challenge.

My testimony is far from complete. I'm on the overcomer's journey. I do not know what I have yet to overcome. I am determined to overcome through the blood of Jesus Christ. I know that He will open the eyes of my understanding so that I will know the hope of His calling, I know that the same Spirit that raise Jesus Christ from the dead dwells within me and that He (Holy Spirit) quickens my mortal flesh and I am committed to continuing in His word and being a disciple indeed in order that the truth continually be revealed and make me free.

Revelation is progressive - continue in His word..Overcome and I hope to hear from you along the way.

Scripture and Information

Revelation 2 (King James Version)

 1Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

2I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

3And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.

4Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

5Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

6But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes, which I also hate.

7He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

 8And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;

9I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.

10Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

11He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

 12And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write; These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges;

13I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan's seat is: and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.

14But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

15So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

16Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.

17He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

 18And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;

19I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.

20Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

21And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.

22Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.

23And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

24But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.

25But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.

26And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:

27And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.

28And I will give him the morning star.

29He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

Revelation 21:6-8 (King James Version)

6And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

8But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Seven Churches in Revelation – Literal Locations in Asia Minor
The seven churches in Revelation refer to seven literal churches described in Revelation, Chapters 2 and 3. These early Christian churches were located in Asia Minor during the era of the Roman Empire. Although the actual churches ceased to thrive in the centuries of Muslim control after the Romans, the archaeological remains of all seven locations currently exist in present-day Turkey.

Seven Churches in Revelation – Then and Now
The seven churches in Revelation are located in western Asia Minor (present-day Turkey), accessible by way of the Aegean Sea and the ancient trade routes between the West and East. For various reasons, whether trade, military, or pure hedonism, these cities were major cultural hubs throughout history. During the first few centuries after Jesus Christ, these Roman-controlled cities were also important in early Christianity. Here are the seven churches of Revelation as described by the writer John in the late first century AD (click on the name to dig deeper into the archaeology):

  1. Ephesus – The desirable church that left its first love (Revelation 2:1-7). Ephesus was the influential capital city of Asia Minor on the Aegean Sea. Ephesus is now known for its huge metropolis of ancient streets, arches and ruins.
  2. Smyrna – The persecuted church that suffered poverty and martyrdom (Revelation 2:8-11). Smyrna was located north of Ephesus in a powerful trading position on the Aegean Sea known for its harbors, commerce, and marketplaces. The primary ruins of Smyrna are located in the modern Turkish city of Izmir.
  3. Pergamum – The worldly church that mixed doctrines and needed to repent (Rev. 2:12-17). Pergamum is located on the plains and foothills along the Caicus River in Western Turkey. It was considered a major city in Asia Minor since the 3rd century BC, and became a Greek and Roman hub for temple worship.
  4. Thyatira – The false church that followed a seductive prophetess (Rev. 2:18-29). Thyatira is located in western Asia Minor about 42 miles inland from the Aegean Sea. The ancient city was known for its textiles and dyeing trade, and is now known as the Turkish city of Akhisar.
  5. Sardis – The "dead" church that fell asleep (Revelation 3:1-6). Sardis is located on the banks of the Pactolus River in western Asia Minor, 60 miles inland from Ephesus and Smyrna. Popular ruins include the decadent temples and bath house complexes.
  6. Philadelphia – The church of brotherly love that endures patiently (Revelation 3:7-13). Philadelphia is located on the Cogamis River in western Asia Minor, about 80 miles east of Smyrna. Philadelphia was known for its variety of temples and worship centers.
  7. Laodicea – The "lukewarm" church with a faith that’s neither hot nor cold (Rev. 3:14-22). Laodicea is located in the Lycus River Valley of western Asia Minor, a primary trade route between the cultures of the West and East. Laodicea was known as a primary hub for the Roman aqueduct system.

Seven Churches in Revelation – Their Ultimate Significance
The seven churches in Revelation are literal churches from the first century AD. However, the seven churches in Revelation also have spiritual significance for churches and believers today. Indeed, the primary purpose for John writing his letters to the seven churches was to deliver Christ’s "report card" for the churches of that time. However, a second purpose for John’s inspired writings was to describe seven types of churches (and individual believers) that would surface time and again throughout history. These short letters to the seven churches of Revelation act as quick and poignant reminders to those who call themselves "followers of Christ."
